Christian truths above narrow equations
A letter from James Chater, Netherlands
Dear JUST Response,
Re: Roman Catholic principles of corruption in Italy (JUST Response, Aug 26 2003)
Some
of the points in Domenico Pacitti's interview on the Roman Catholic Church are
well made but others are theologically shallow, especially the equation between
communion and cannibalism. Please try not to alienate those of us Christians who
like to visit the JUST Response site because they value truth and
justice!
Pacitti appears to be saying that Christian (or is that Roman Catholic?) beliefs
are based on "absolutely no evidence". I could refute this and
demonstrate the historical basis of the Christian faith but instead would
suggest a reading of "Who Moved the Stone?", the work of a lawyer who
was originally an atheist but converted to Christianity while researching his
book.
Criticism of the doctrines (as opposed to the behaviour) of the Roman Catholic
Church does not make much sense except with reference to the Gospels or the
Patristic tradition ante-dating the Great Schism.
