Apology for a Canadian gentleman
A letter from Calvin Davies, Calgary
Dear Editor,
David Aliaga suffered a grave injustice while trying to pursue his research doctorate in ethno-anthropology at the University of Calabria [Doctoral torture, JUST Response, Dec 21 2002]. He is a man of high integrity who deserves to be given recognition for his efforts and at the very least an opportunity for his academic record to be reviewed and accounted for.
I have had the opportunity of working closely with David during the course of the last five years and we have developed a strong professional relationship which has extended into a friendship. Professionally he has served as a computer technician and network specialist. In this role his commitment and work ethic has been exceptional. He has a high level of technical expertise and has an ability to help others in a gentle non threatening manner. David facilitates learning and working with others by advocating changes that will help them learn and flourish in a technological environment.
David prizes, relates, understands and communicates with others in a positive and professional manner. He has the ability to share with others in a manner which encourages effective two-way communication. He is able to communicate personal thoughts and feelings about issues and at the same time he can listen to others in an empathetic manner. I would like to note that relationships are very important to David. Throughout the years I have found his desire to develop and maintain positive professional and personal relationships to be a cornerstone of his character. David genuinely exudes a humanness and strong ethic of care for others. I am truly pleased to have had an opportunity to get to know David, as I too have grown a great deal as a direct result of our collaboration and friendship.
